Fourth grade students at CCES have been completing an hour of code! They were really good at creating the codes! We used www.code.org and students got to choose between three different options before getting to try to create their own Flappy Bird Game!
This is Studio 214, our fourth grade classroom, where I will post cool websites, provide classroom information on upcoming events, and post pics of what we are learning in our class!

Nominations and Flip the Sign
Each morning, we have a time where students make nominations and we flip our sign, meaning we are reading to start the day and learn. Students nominate each other based on them seeing others use the seven habits. It is led each week by our classroom leader and we close it by chanting our class motto "EVERY MINUTE COUNTS". There is a video link below of how it works and the song we use to signal it's time for nominations and flipping the sign (I apologize for the quality, but it will help give you an idea of how it works)!

Creative Writing in Science
We are wrapping up our unit our sense receptors and our super star cast read an article about "Super Senses" and used it to create a comic strip on a free website called "Bit Strip". They had to create a "guess who" comic by included facts about the animal's environment and two clues about the super sense, so other students could read and guess the animal. They also got to create their own avatar to include in their comic! They are turning out really cool and we can't wait to show the published comics!
Let's Roll 'Em!
Who knew a red and green dice with our Science Script (our study guide- name matches our room theme) could cause so much excitement?
We added numbers to all the front boxes on the science script (numbers that could be gotten when two dice are rolled.) We also added a number to the back so that students could add their own review question and answer it as well. We played the game using the dice- one student rolled, while the other asked the question and they took turns reviewing and quizzing each other. They could keep up with points or just roll for fun- it was their option. This was a fun and easy way to review!

Mystery Substances and Sense Receptors
We used our sense receptors to figure out what these two similar looking substances were because the labels had fallen off the salt and sugar containers! Our taste receptors helped us figure out what the substances were in the bags!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Our Christmas tree is up and glowing for the Christmas season! We just love this time of year! Our tree matches our classroom theme with our movie studio including film ribbon, candy boxes, movie reels, and stars!

Birthday Lunch
We had our second birthday lunch today for our kids with birthdays during the months of October, November, and December, and they got to bring a friend. I love these kids- they are so funny! We had a split group- boys on one side and girls on the other.

Bouncy Balls!
Today we had a special visit from the University of Kentucky Ag Bus where we got to create biodegradable corn plastic and turn it into our very own bouncy balls! Students reviewed the meaning of non-renewable resources and states of matter during this project! We would like to say a special thank you to FRYSC and our Conservation District Office for sponsoring the Ag Bus for us!

Gallery Walk- Say What?
We have been learning about how to use quotation marks correctly and so today, we did a gallery walk and students worked together to figure out the sentences written correctly. After our gallery walk, they created a "scene" with two characters talking to each other so I could see if they could be successful creating quotation sentences.
Super Leaders using Super Senses
We are learning about sense receptors in Studio 214 and so today, we used our senses and figured out some mystery substances to lead us in to what we were learning about with "Super Senses". Did you know dogs can hear four times better than humans and that some animals have a magnetic sense?
