Last week at CCES it was career week. We had an awesome week filled with guest speakers, a career day, and family learning night, focused on careers! Here is a picture of one of our guest speakers that came to speak to us last week about choosing a career we love and following our dreams.
This is Studio 214, our fourth grade classroom, where I will post cool websites, provide classroom information on upcoming events, and post pics of what we are learning in our class!

Cabinet Members Luncheon
Fourth grade recently elected a new President and Vice President! Leading up to the election, each homeroom elected their own candidates and they worked together as a class teams to create mottos, slogans, platforms, videos, and speeches. Each class had two campaign managers. The president of each class gave a speech to the entire fourth grade and then we cast our votes to elect a fourth grade president and vice president. They did such a great job with the entire project!
In the picture below, students got to have a special lunch with our Principal and Assistant Principal, to discuss their platforms and issues for CCES. One key discussion areas was to have a school dance for grades 3-5 and charge admission and sale concessions. They wanted to use the money to repaint the bathrooms and make them look cooler. Students also wanted to have a flex Friday in the lunchroom and if they had not been in trouble during the week, they could sit wherever they wanted to so they could talk with students from other classes. They had many great ideas and it was neat to be able to have a meeting for them to share their ideas!

New Member of Studio 214- Ms. Kay
We got a new member this week in Studio 214- Ms. Kay! She is a brown and white guinea pig and she is still warming up to us!
Layers of Soil Experiment
We conducted an experiment this week to test different types of mixtures of soil, sand, and gravel to see how much water could pass through within a minute. We did this experiment to lead into the discussion of why we must have a mixture of substances for plants to grow properly. We were shocked to find that the most water passed through the soil only test. The best mixture included soil, sand, and gravel.
We poured in 80 mL of water and timed the drainage for 1 minute to see how much water would end up in the cup after that amount of time. We then measured the amount to compare the different mixtures.

Rock Cycle Song
We are learning this song in Studio 214 to help us remember the rock cycle- it's pretty catchy!
Resource Sort
Today in Science, we used a card sort to discuss and debate about what types of materials are renewable and nonrenewable and which ones were not even considered natural resources. Some discussions were intense and I loved hearing their reasoning!
