We used a new formative assessment this week called "Brain Dump" where students had two minutes to talk with their should partner and use the thinking stems to guide their discussions. Then they had sixty seconds to "dump" it all on the paper. We completed the brain dump after students answered the questions from their anticipation guide that we used with a video we watched in science about systems in our body and how the systems work together.
This is Studio 214, our fourth grade classroom, where I will post cool websites, provide classroom information on upcoming events, and post pics of what we are learning in our class!

Jeopardy Review
We had a friendly game of Jeopardy last week to review for our science test and it was intense! We have some competitive fourth graders! They played on teams to answer questions and if one group missed a question, the other groups were able to steal their points if they could answer it correctly. The game was also added to our science webpage so families could use it to study at home.
Student Feedback
We completed an extended response this week and the next day, students looked at samples from each class (names were removed to protect the innocent ha ha) and we used our KPREP rubrics and provided descriptive feedback and scored the responses. They did a great job and provided great feedback for their peers!
I See You!
We began learning about sense receptors this week and today we focused on light receptors with eye balls. We dissected cow eye balls in class and discussed all the functions of the structures of the eye balls. Students created thinking stems and thick questions after we dissected and labeled an eye ball diagram.

African Culture
We had the pleasure of having Ms. Cindy speak to our fourth graders about the years she spent living in Africa. She spent five years there as a child and had many neat stories and artifacts to share with our kids!
Scrubby Poster Contest
These fourth grade ladies won the "Scrubby" poster contest, showing how we can be healthy at school and at home!
Yellow and Blue Make Green!
Students used a checklist to reflect on a friendly letter we wrote to our pen pals in San Antonio, Texas. They highlighted what they felt they had completed in yellow. I used the same check list and highlighted what they did in blue. The things we agree upon, will then be green. This is a great visual to use as a formative assessment and reflection!
